Obama Fear

So a lot of moms on a site I frequent want an answer to the question:

Why does Obama scare/terrify you?

A very legitimate question that I feel deserves a response.

My answer is… I am not scared of Obama.
He is a man.
I do not know him but I truly believe that like the majority of people his motives are not evil.
He will be wrong, make mistakes, and have opposing views to mine but I would be willing to say that all people would fall into that category.

So why did I oppose Obama?

While socialism and communism is admirable in theory it cannot work on a large scale.
So while I personally find some of the ideals of socialism to be sought after I do NOT believe that the government should play ANY role in it.

It is an individuals right to act upon their compassion for mankind.

But my primary reason for opposing Obama is life.

I am pro-life.
I understand this stance is in conflict with the majority of Obama supporters.

I believe life begins at conception and abortion is wrong.
Evidence shows that Obama does not align with my beliefs.
I believe denying medical care to a living baby that survives an abortion is wrong.
I believe allowing babies to die because they might not have the “quality of life” WE think they should have or it might impede on OUR “quality of life” is wrong.

I see a trend that goes…
It is O.K. to kill…
Unborn babies
Born babies that we should have killed on the first try
Disabled/premature babies that might not live up to someone’s standards for “quality of life” be it hospitals, governments, parents etc.

“Quality of life” can move farther…
Elderly, sick, disabled etc…

The slope is a slippery moral issue that frightens and saddens me.

Obama is just a man.
One of many that must act in accordance to take us down this slope or get us off it.
The president is a man.
People are mistaken about his power.

I am not afraid of Obama.

I do distrust government and want less of it not more.

I have been praying for Obama and his family.
I am scared FOR him.
There are crazy, hateful people out there.
I am scared for his daughters and pray they do not have to hear their father being cut to pieces by the hatred that Bush’s daughters endured.

Obama will be my president.
I will respect him as a person created by God.
I will respect the office he holds.
I will oppose the ISSUES I disagree with.

Thanks for your kind words. Many who share your opinions on this issue don't relay their thoughts so eloquently.

I disagree with you regarding the policy aspect of your beliefs, but humanistically, we're on the same page.

I wish that pro-lifers (in general) would understand a couple of things about pro-choicers. I hope you don't mind me sharing because I really think this "reaching across the aisle" thing has merit ;).

1. Pro choice does not mean pro-abortion. If you want to get all semantic-y about it you could probably argue this point. But in the hearts of the people who support choice you will see a fierce regard for human life, as fierce as those with pro-life brains. I prefer to know people on a heart level and cut them some slack when it comes to the words they use to express thoughts.

2. If even half the effort those on the pro-life side of the coin expend on anti-abortion activism would be shifted to families who are really struggling, babies who are already here and need us, imagine how the choice to end a life or not could shift. For many of us on the choice side, this is our stance. Support women and families, then choices like abortion magically fade.

Just some food for thought. I hope you don't mind it being on your blog. I'm sure that our positions are so dang close together you couldn't put a piece of paper between us, at least as far as our hearts are concerned.
